Please mine the Internet for one method students can use to better understand poetry. Explain the technique, and be sure to credit the source. Try not to repeat information provided in previous posts.
“Reading Poetry: Some Hints to Help You Read with More Pleasure and Understanding” was the title of the site I found. This site focused on paying attention to the details that make up a good poem. More specifically the author spoke of the need to understand the tone/voice, metaphors/images, rhetoric, structure, ambiguities, and tradition/convention involved in the poem being read. To understand these things the author suggested methods such as making mental lists and actually performing the poem out loud. I thought that the emphasis on actually enjoying the poem as well as understanding it was an excellent move on the part of the author; especially considering that a student is much more likely to put all of their attention into an assignment if they enjoy it.
