Discussion Topic #12: In 100 proofed words relate the Orwell quote to today's society (North Salem, America, the World...). Please do not repeat ideas, but you are encouraged to comment on ideas posed in previous posts.
"War is Peace"- when there is a war to fight people don't start creating waves within their own country. For instance, if someone is thinking about how the inner city school systems are not up to the level they should be and that there is more crime then there should be and a certain politician starts a war with- lets just say terroism- and invades I don't know- maybe Afghanistan and Iraq, then it is probable that the person concerned about education and crime will spend less time worrying or making waves about that and worring more about terrorists bombing the country. Hence creating less contraversy inside the country "Freedom is Slavery"- when everyone is free to make their own choices then thier choices have more of an affect on others. In a particularly controled society there is less of a chance of hurting other people then there is in our society. In a more free society one is more of a slave to the actions of those around them. "Ignorance is Strength"- When you don't know that murder is wrong its quite a bit easier to commit it. If you don't realize that the enemy has a family at home and is held dear by innocents then it makes it much easier to go to war against them. When you only are aware of one side then there is no reason to question your judgement... and since questioning and fighting with one's concious is difficult it makes it much easier to do what you have to if you haven't/aren't going through that.
