Great literature transcends time because of its inherent qualities: the author has a clear purpose, the author achieves that purpose, and the purpose is a worthwhile one.

Discussion Topic #3
In 100 proofed words discuss one aspect of the film, Apocalypse Now, you think illuminates an otherwise dim aspect of the novel, Heart of Darkness. (Due Thursday, September 30, 2004.)
The movie gives a lot of insight into Marlow/Willard for me. In the beginning when Willard is in his room, watching and listening to him put a whole new light on how frustrated he was at not having anything to do. In the book Marlow still goes to africa even after the doctor warns him to watch his sanity. Why didn’t he back out with all these bad signs around him? Apocolypse Now answered that for me. Now I feel as though the entire plot of the story is on firmer ground for me.
